Inside the Walls of Van Gogh’s Mind - Nancy Manning

Projected all around me--

Vincent’s canvases. This Immersive Experience.

How he created still lifes, landscapes,

self-portraits by using brushstrokes--the first

breath of color, shape, paintover changes.

So much mesmerizes. Vase with Irises

with pink background, green table, white porcelain

vase overflows with blue irises, one brown

petal. As if a farmer’s wife left them untidied

when chores pulled her away.

From this cluster green stemmed--

God, man, nature in one image

of spiritual uplift--harmony, perfection

in this bouquet’s imperfection.

Nancy Manning earned an MFA in Poetry from Southern Connecticut State University. Her poetry and prose have appeared in an eclectic mix of publications, most recently 2024 Connecticut Literary Anthology, Humans of the World, Sad Girl Diaries, Noctua Review and Unmagnolia. Her novel Undertow of Silence won the TAG publishing award. Nancy also teach high school English classes.
